A grant application was submitted earlier this year and subsequently granted by Teignmouth Town Council for four new wheelchairs. These will replace two damaged chairs and increase the hire/rental stock.
Spokesman Brian Hamblin commented, "The number of people that are hiring our wheelchairs has increased significantly this year. Two of our wheelchairs needed updating and were not repairable, and being able to add to our rental stock prompted the application for a grant.
In previous years, local donors have also helped fund six mobility scooters.
Teignmouth's incapacitated community and visitors will be able to rent the wheelchairs at low cost."
